My own health and wellbeing transformation
Transforming your health and wellbeing. A personalised approach
These photos are 3 years apart. The change you see on the outside is just as dramatic as the one I feel on the inside.
This feels like a very personal, and slightly self indulgent post, but I want to explain how I came to set up Island Holistic Nursing and my mission to help others transform their own health and wellbeing.
Two years ago, I was overweight, anxious, I had crippling low self-esteem, I was a weekend binge drinker, and a people pleaser. I had poor sleep, chronic back and knee pain, and was experiencing debilitating symptoms of peri-menopause. However, on the outside I looked like I had it all together; outgoing, successful career, lovely family, good friends, I exercised and had a great social life. On the inside I was miserable with how I felt.
On the 31st of May 2022 I decided to give up alcohol as it was making me depressed and anxious. I threw myself into sober life, I started exercising regularly, I practiced breathwork and yoga, and lost a ton of weight. I was feeling and looking better. I started to work even harder , changing roles, and increasing my hours, until I started to have panic attacks driving to work. I was crying all of the time and couldn’t understand why. I was doing all the right things but I felt like my life was falling apart. It turns out I was in a toxic environment and was experiencing burnout. After 23 years in the NHS I decided to prioritise my own health and wellbeing and took the very painful decision to leave a job I loved.
Over a period of six months I transformed my mind, body, and spirit through walking, meditation, prioritising my sleep and nutrition, focusing on my core values and educating myself on the importance of lifestyle in disease prevention.
I set up Island Holistic Nursing as my mission is to help people transform their own health and wellbeing. Using my own personal experience, my 23 years nursing experience and my coaching and mentorship skills. Initially I devised a 40-day wellness programme but after reflecting on my own journey, I realised that real change takes time. I have therefore changed the 40-day programme to a 6 month 1:1 course.
Of course, I will still be offering my cardiac assessments, health and wellbeing assessments and post discharge reviews, but my development personally is in coaching. Group health and wellbeing workshops are currently under development.
Island Holistic Nursing is also delighted to announce that as of this month, private consultant cardiology appointments will be available upon request. Please feel free to drop me an email if this is something you are interested in.
