Transformation: The delciate art of growth

The more people I talk to about health and wellbeing, the more I realise that the majority of people I know are dissatisfied with their overall wellbeing, they generally feel tired, wired and stressed. Why is this? and why does it feel so difficult to change?

If we look to nature, and how we were designed to live, we can find the answers to these questions.

300,000 years ago, we were living in nomadic tribes, hunting, gathering, breading, and sleeping. Not much else. Our bodies have not evolved from this time. We are stuck behind a desks or in demanding jobs, we work harder and longer hours which never feels enough, we rush to get to the shops to source dinner, we watch TV, support elderly parents, kids, colleagues, friends, our extended families may live across the globe, we feel guilty for not ‘being enough’, we sleep less, move less, spend less time out doors and we are less socially connected than ever despite spending hours online messaging and observing other peoples lives.

Our poor bodies don’t know what’s going on. Our nervous systems get stuck in fight or flight mode as our primative brain thinks we are in danger. This leads to high cortisol levels which increases our heart rate and blood pressure, we put on weight, suffer with insomnia, we feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and anxious, all resulting in poor health and wellbeing.

So how do we transform ourselves back to health? Well there is no magic pill and transformation takes time. It has taken us years to get to where we are and going on some fad diet and eating some Chia seeds is not enough to transform years of ingrained habits and lifestyle choices. Change takes time, gentleness and the accumulation of new, healthy, and consistent habits, following what nature intended:

  • Sleep

  • Movement

  • Nutrition

  • Social Connection

  • Nature

  • Nervous System Regulation

You cant rush growth and transformation. Remember; no one ever told a dandelion to hurry up and grow faster.
